Duncan is delighted to hear that his latest release, Affric has been included within the longlist for the Scottish Music Industry Association’s ’Scottish Album of the Year Award’. The 20 albums on the list represent a dazzling range of genres and musical styles highlighting, once again, the extraordinary depth of talent being produced in Scotland. Open to Scottish artists who released albums in 2012, the longlist is the product of a rigorous and thorough nomination process, with submissions received by 100 specially-invited nominators from the Scottish and UK music industries as well as elsewhere in the arts and media.

A four-week promotion of the music / artists included within the longlist will follow, allowing the public to stream every one of the twenty longlisted titles. Be sure to visit the SAY Award website here to download their app or read about and listen to the wealth of Scottish music that has been included within the longlist. Congratulations to all those artists on the list. It is wonderful to be part of a national arts prize which strives to focus attention on the Scottish music scene and in particular, on the fact that it has become one of the most vibrant, influential and well respected in the world. Enjoy the music….

Duncan is pleased to announce that during November 2013, he will perform a small selection of shows presenting his groundbreaking multi-media production, Kin. This award winning production, originally commissioned by the Blas Festival, has been so well received that Duncan thought the time was right to tour it within Scotland. The perfect blend of live contemporary folk music; with film, photographs and words - Kin is a beautifully crafted journey into the past, which is illuminating, evocative and moving. Duncan delivers a deep understanding of place and people that is truly unforgettable. A multi-media production incorporating music, film and dialogue. This will be the last time Duncan will perform this production, ahead of its archiving. Full tour dates / box office details will be available via our ‘Dates’ page, very soon.

Thanks to all those of you who joined Duncan at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum for the Celtic Connections Exclusive Strathglass Suite performance. The sell out show concluded with a standing ovation and Duncan was overwhelmed with the response this performance has received. It was a delight to watch Garry Walker conduct the wonderful musicians of the orchestral ensemble that accompanied Duncan. Duncan’s core band, which comprised the great talents of Jarlath Henderson, Ross Hamilton, Martin O’Neill, Allan Henderson and Matheu Watson joined him in playing a packed set of tunes from the Farrar, Canaich and Affric albums. The evening was drawn to conclusion with a powerful reading from Calum MacDonald of Runrig as he presented lines from Neil Munro’s poem To Exiles, excerpts of which feature in all three of The Strathglass Trilogy recordings. A huge thanks to those involved on and off stage and of course, to Stephen Adam of Scottish Opera for the wonderful arrangements which have allowed Duncan to add this new and exciting dynamic to his music.

Lots more to see at Celtic Connections 2013 – get out and enjoy some live music.
